Kitchen basics: homemade tomato sauce #15


There is nothing like making your own tomato sauce at home! The fresher the tomatoes the better, and you can use it multiple times and store in your refrigerator until you need it.:)

Great with pastas, risottos, on pizzas, gnocchi, potatoes, curries, etc etc.:)

Ingredients: ❤

1 small onion
1 clove of garlic
3 medium size tomatoes
Handful of cherry tomatoes
1/2 red bell pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp tomato paste
1-2 tsp sugar
1/2 cup boiling water
Coarse salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
1 bay leave
Bunch of basil leaves

Preparation: ❤

1. Wash the tomatoes, onion and peppers well. Peel the onions and garlic and add them finely chopped into a pan with the olive oil and bay leaf. Cook it on a medium heat and after 3-4 minutes add in the pepper, cut in small pieces. Add the tomatoes all together and let cook for 5 minutes.

2. Mix in the spices, boiling water and tomato paste and let cook until tender, approx. 25 minutes on low heat. Use the hand blender until smooth and creamy.

3. Check seasoning and add the basil leaves finely chopped.
